Alyssa Campanella, a 21-year-old auburn-haired California girl, won the Miss USA crown on Sunday night.
Campanella, who is from Los Angeles, topped a field of 51 beauty queens to take the title at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. She will represent the nation in this year’s Miss Universe pageant in September in Brazil.
Campanella won after strutting across the stage in a blue bikini with white polka dots and a dark turquoise evening gown with beading on its top.
She also answered a question about legalizing marijuana by saying she didn’t think it should be fully legalized as a solution to help ailing economies.
“Well, I understand why that question would be asked, especially with today’s economy, but I also understand that medical marijuana is very important to help those who need it medically,” she said. “I’m not sure if it should be legalized, if it would really affect, with the drug war. I mean, it’s abused today, unfortunately, so that’s the only reason why I would kind of be a little bit against it, but medically it’s OK.”
Miss Tennessee Ashley Durham was the first runner-up. Contestants from Alabama and Texas placed third and fourth.
Campanella replaces Miss USA 2010 Rima Fakih. The Michigan woman teared up as she walked across the stage for a final goodbye.

Carmen’s parents were Italian and Hungarian. They were constantly breaking up and getting back together. Because of this, Carmen lived in foster homes and sometimes with other relatives.
In 1942, Carmen reunited with her mother and moved to New York City. At the age of 13, while riding a bus to ballet class, she was approached to model by the wife of photographer Herman Landschoff. Her test photos, taken at Jones Beach, were a “flop” according to Carmen. Her godfather though introduced her to Vogue, where Carmen signed a contract for $7.50 per hour in 1946 at age 15. She appears in the December 15, 1946 issue of VOGUE as Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White and Cinderella along with supermodel Dorian Leigh, actors Ray Bolger and Jose Ferrer.
Despite modeling, Carmen and her mother were poor. They had no telephone and Vogue sent runners to their apartment to let Carmen know about modeling jobs. She roller-skated to assignments to save bus fare. Carmen was so malnourished that famed fashion photographers Horst P. Horst and Cecil Beaton had to pin back dresses and stuff her body with tissue. Carmen and her mother were also accomplished seamtresses and made extra money making clothes. One of their customers was Dorian Leigh. Carmen would later become best friends with Dorian’s younger sister, model Suzy Parker. Together they would be bridesmaids at Dorian’s second wedding to Roger Mehle in 1948.
In 1947, Carmen got a raise to $10–$25 per hour. She appeared on the October 1947 cover of Vogue, at age 15, one of the youngest Vogue cover models ever (along with Niki Taylor, Brooke Shields, and Monika Schnarre). Carmen was also on the November 1948 cover of Vogue. She worked with the most famous fashion photographers of the era including Irving Penn, Francesco Scavullo, Norman Parkinson, and Richard Avedon. She also became Salvador Dali’s muse.
Despite early successes at a very young age, modeling agent Eileen Ford refused to represent her and Vogue lost interest in her. After doctors prescribed shots to start puberty, she instead started working for catalogs and lingerie, making $300 per hour. It was then that she joined Ford in 1953.

Daisha Graf http://www.mbkentertainment.com
In the spring of 2008, Daisha Graf— then 20 years old and unknown, started a back-up dance career that’s spanned some of the largest urban hip-hop and R&B tours in recent memory— Rihanna, Diddy, Ryan Leslie, Letoya Lucket, Jill Scott and Beyonce to name a few. Even before graduating with a BA in Dance from Hofstra University, Daisha earned notice as a talented member with the Imani Dance Ensembl…e and NYC based Rhapsody The Company.
However, after reaching the top of the working commercial dance world, her passion and vision to express herself as a performing artist hadn’t quite satisfied her own self-fulfillment.
“Even before being on the road for so long, I envisioned an original live experience more theatrical and expressive than dance alone could reveal about me,” says Daisha, spoken with a warm smile and a truly endearing attitude. Her artistic presence is noticeable, and likable. Its almost if an aura surounds her that all at once says- ‘earth mother’ meets ‘Beyonce,’ but its not until one samples her music that the word ‘Tron’ is added to her club-like soundscapes. “I began to have intense dreams about a body of material that reflected me. It included my own electric sound, vibe, and style. I knew if I really went for it, I’d risk all the hard work I’d built so far, including my reputation as a professional dancer.” Daisha continued, “I really hope I can shed light to those who also dream about creating anyway that frees the spirit.”
Now working vigorously in the studio with some of New York’s youngest and brightest hip-hop, pop, and dance producers, Daisha, has undergone her own self-aware transformation. Free from the bonds of her perceived one-sided career, she’s elevated her artistic endeavors from only interpreting body movement from sound, to creating the sound and lyrics that also augments her dance style unilaterally, or as Daisha says “Creating new choreography to my own music is the best!”
Less you think this is the story of just another professional dancer wanting to be a pop-star, Daisha was trained as a classical pianist since the age of 5 and also participated in choirs throughout high school and college. “Music had always been an important part of my life, but dance became the perfect medium for exposing me to the professional music industry.”
Soon enough, Daisha landed a coveted spot on Rihanna’s European tour- “A Girl Like Me”. When she returned, she signed with the agency Clear Talent Group and continued performing all over the world with the renowned artists mentioned above. Additionally through her agency, Daisha landed roles on feature films such as, Step Up 2, Step up 3D, and When in Rome.
It was around this time that veteran music manager Jeff Robinson, CEO of MBK Entertainment, discovered Ms. Graf’s versatility, bold vision and her ability to turn heads with action. After extending an artist management and production contract, Daisha can now be found comfortably at home with an incredible MBK roster of artists where artistry, hard work and musical talent are heralded above all else.
